Shutdown in Kokernag areas against killing of militant Syed Owais Shafi

Srinagar, Mar 13: A spontaneous shutdown is being observed in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district to mourn the death of a local militant in a gunfight with forces yesterday.
All shops, schools and other business establishments are closed in Kokernag tehsil, including villages like Zalangam and Vailoo, while public transport is off the roads.
Syed Owais Shafi of Vailoo area of Kokernag – 25 km from Anantnag town – was among three militants killed in a gunfight with forces in Hakoora village of the district in the wee hours yesterday.
Thousands of people had participated in the multiple funerals held for him at his native Gohan-Vailoo village yesterday.
Owais had just completed his engineering degree when he joined militancy last year.
