    2-day Teacher Training workshop organised by RSCConcludes

    Jammu, 16-June;The two day innovative teacher training workshop which was being organized jointly by The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK and the CSIR – Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM) for the capacity building of Science teachers from Kishtwar district in Jammu concluded here at Govt. Model Hr. Sec. School (Boys) Kishtwar today.
    While giving the details about the workshop Dr. Ashaq Hussain, Associate Professor Chemistry who is coordinating these workshops said that these workshops are being arranged under the banner of Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Science Programme (YHISP), envisioning the skills and knowledge of science teachers with an aim to give teachers new techniques for delivering and engaging concepts in Science effectively and this workshop is the third workshop in the series of total 4 workshops as previously two workshops of this kind were conducted at Kathua (9-10 June) and at Katra (12-13 June). The last workshop will be in Anantnag on 19th and 20th June.
    On the occassion while giving the conclusion remarks, Mr Hemant Lagvankar, the key resource person of this training programme added that the workshop was organized with an objective to raise and to train teachers to design lessons integrating activities in curriculum and pedagogy to improve understanding of subjects inorder to develop higher order thinking skills as such during this workshop teachers were introduced to proven active learning techniques that can be applied easily in a science context, helping students to develop their conceptual understanding. Thus the teachers got the opportunity to learn some practical science experiments that could be adapted and to be used in any setting, including those with no traditional laboratory facilities.
    A total of 48 science teachers from various Government and private schools participated in this workshop and thoroughly enjoyed the proceedings. The valedictory function of the workshop today was presided over by Mr Parhallad Bhagat, Chief Education Officer Kishtwar. In his valedictory speech CEO Kishtwar, Mr Parhalad Bhagat urged teachers to take these innovative techniques into the classroom and make Science teaching effective and joyful for the students. He in his address hailed the efforts of Dr. Ashaq Hussain and RSC, CSIR-IIIM Jammu and appreciated the above capacity building programme. He said that such workshops should be organized at every level and on regular intervals to develop creative teaching skills among the teachers.
    At the end certificates on behalf of RSC and CSIR – IIIM were distributed among all the participants by Cheif guest in presence of scientists Dr V P Rahul and Dr Showkat of IIIM Jammu who were present on this occasion. Mr. Arshad Hussain Dev, Lecturer GHSS Kishtwar assisted Dr. Ashaq Hussain and thereby played a key role in coordinating the entire event.
