    2 Days Conference on “ Oral Cancer- Bridging the Gap” by Oral & Maxillo-facial Surgery Department at IGGDC, Jammu

    Jammu, June 10: Post Graduate Department of Oral & Maxillo-facial Surgery, Indira Gandhi Govt. Dental College, Jammu organized the first ever two days conference on Oral & Maxillo-facial Surgery with special reference to surgical interventions in oral cancers on 10th and 11th June 2023, in the auditorium of IGGDC. Sh. Bhupinder Kumar IAS, Worthy Secretary to Govt. Health and Medical Education Department inaugurated the conference and in his presidential address Secretary Health and Medical Education Department emphasized upon the increasing pace with which NCDs including cancers which are becoming prevalent and posing a threat to global health and health care delivery systems. He highlighted the relevance and importance of highly skilled Oral & Maxillo facial surgeons for providing high end cancer management services to Oral, Head and Neck cancer patients. This hands-on training workshop and conference on the latest surgical skills and interventions shall go a long way in upgrading the service profile of IGGDC Jammu and making it a center of excellence in the Oral & Maxillo facial surgery. He impressed upon the multidisciplinary approach of this surgical specialty of dentistry which requires to be rationally integrated with other cancer management modalities in the State Cancer Institute and Govt. Medical College Jammu. He stressed upon the Cancer prevention, IEC and awareness of cancers among common masses and mass screening of oral cancers for early detection and interventions in a collaborative manner with an aggressive public health out reach approach. He congratulated Dr. Rakesh Krishan Gupta, Principal and Dean IGGDC and Dr. Parveen Akhter Lone, Prof. and Head Oral & Maxillo-facial surgery for organizing this skill upgradation and capacity building conference which will definitely enhance the onco-surgical capabilities of Oral& Maxillo-facial surgeons fraternity and will open new vistas for better patient health care in this clinical domain. Sh. Bhupinder Kumar, IAS worthy secretary H&ME also inaugurated a cafeteria in the campus which is one of the institutional requirements of Dental Council of India. He also inaugurated a high tech committee room in the institution. While inaugurating the new infra-structural additions in IGGDC Jammu, he instructed the institutional authorities to provide more smart classes. He also instructed for preparing a proposal to provide central air conditioning facility in the Multi-purpose hall for teachers and students. While congratulating Principal Dr. Rakesh Krishan Gupta and Prof and Head Oral and Maxillo-facial surgery Dr. Parveen Akhter Lone, Worthy Secretary instructed them to submit a comprehensive proposal for integrating oral & maxillo-facial surgery with other allied medical specialties for quality management of oral, head and neck cancers. He expressed his hope that such skill up-gradation and capacity building programs shall continue in near future for imparting better surgical acumen to the Oral and Maxillo-facial surgeons.
    Principal IGGDC, Dr. Rakesh Krishan Gupta gave a detailed overview of the college, infrastructure, equipment especially IT infrastructure of the institution along with improvements made in academic, clinical and research activities . Dr. Parveen Akhter Lone ,Prof. & Head Oral Maxillo-facial gave a detailed presentation on the surgical interventions in various cases Oral Maxillo facial surgeries regarding Road Traffic Accidents, Trauma, Tumors and Temporo-Mandibular joint surgeries through a power point presentations, wherein, glimpses of surgical intervention were detailed to the Chief Guest and august gathering. She also discussed futuristic plans for the development of her specialty.
    Dr. Anshuman Kumar who is a highly acclaimed Onco-Surgeon in India and has an expertise in clinical and surgical techniques for management of complex cancers especially Oral, Neck and Head cancers: He provided hands-on training to delegates on Novel Punch Biopsy Technique in oral cancer. In his address, he emphasized that Cancer can be better managed by integrated and multidisciplinary approach and vouched for integration of various surgical specialties under one roof for better patient care and cancer management. He also offered his services for continuous learning and up-skilling program of onco-surgeons and Oral & Maxilla-Facial surgeons for a collective war to defeat the cancer. Dr. Mohan Singh, Director Ayush J&K, also participated in the program as a special guest.
    Dr. Amrit Pal Singh and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Bhagat faculty of OMF surgery coordinated Scientific and Technical sessions. Dr. Roopav Nargotra, faculty of OMF surgery presented the vote of thanks. Delegates and Post Graduate participants from Jammu & Kashmir and other Northern States of the country including Dr. Ajaj Ahmed HoD OMF Surgery Govt. Dental College Srinagar and Dr. Nitin, HoD OMF Surgery Govt. Dental College Amritsar also participated in the technical sessions and inaugural sessions. All the heads of Department of IGGDC, Jammu including Medical Superintendent and Deputy medical superintendent, paramedical/ paradental and other teaching and non teaching staff with students also participated in the program.
