Srinagar, December 15: Two militants and a policeman were killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday. In the subsequent clashes that followed two civilians were also killed.
The gunfight triggered at Sirnoo in Pulwama, over 30 km from Srinagar, when joint teams of police, Army and CRPF cordoned off the area after an input about militants’ presence.
“In the brief exchange of fire two militants were killed and two bodies have been retrieved. We expect one more militant’s body,” a security officer said. He said two armymen were also injured in the gunfight.
The identity of the slain militants is being established.
Intense clashes broke out between the youth and forces near the encounter site which left two civilians dead and many injured.
Pulwama Deputy Commissioner Ghulam Mohammad Dar said two civilians were killed in the clashes near the encounter site.
Internet service has been suspended in Pulwama district.
