Monitoring Desk,05-Jan;Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur reached Guwahati on a day-long visit to review the Y20 inception meeting preparation.
The Union Minister visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati and reviewed the preparedness to host the Y20 inception meeting at the Institute with the Officials. After that Thakur visited the second venue of the Y20 at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra and reviewed preparedness with the senior officials of the State Government.
State Government officials are now briefing the Union Minister on the preparedness of the Y20 at a city hotel.
Started in 2012, the Y20 is the youth version of the G20 Summits and it is the only officially recognized platform for young people to engage with the G20 and it is one of the most influential international diplomatic forums for young leaders. It is also one of eight official engagement groups under the G20 umbrella.
The G20 rotating presidency bears the responsibility of hosting the youth summit, which usually takes place some weeks prior to the traditional forum to know what the youths are thinking and incorporate their suggestions in their own policy proposals. It is an attempt to create a connecting point between G20 governments and their local youth.
