CAA-NRC is demonetisation 2.0, a bigger jolt: Rahul on Congress’s 135th foundation day

    New Delhi, December 28

As the Congress marked its 135th foundation day on Saturday, party leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the BJP alleging that the ongoing push for Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizens and National Population Register was nothing but demonetisation 2.0.

“Whatever is going on around us right now is demonetisation 2.0. Forget demonetisation of the past. The current move will leave everything behind. It will be a bigger jolt. The basic idea is to get every poor of India to tell the government if they are citizens—yes or no. Fifteen industry friends of Narendra Modi will not have to show any documents. The money collected from the exercise will go to the pockets of these industrialists,” Rahul said after party president Sonia Gandhi unfurled the National Flag at the Congress headquarters in the presence of party top brass, including Manmohan Singh.

Rahul also reacted to Information Minister Prakash Javadekar’s “Rahul is a liar” accusation saying “You heard the PM say there’s no detention centre in India and you saw my video which shows a detention centre. Now you decide who’s lying.”

Rahul left for Guwahati to address a public rally as the anti-CAA protests simmer in Assam.

Sonia led the celebrations which marked the recital of the National Anthem, the National Song and the Tricolour Song.

AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also took to Twitter saying, “On this day we commit ourselves to Congress values of non-violence and liberalism.” She said the Congress was the voice of the last man standing, of the youth, women and the exploited.

“We are the voice of love and harmony. We are the Congress,” she said.

Priyanka is in Lucknow to preside over the Congress foundation day event and to meet party workers. (Agencies)
