Jammu,May 1: The Government Friday informed that 25 new positive cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), all from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 639.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 639 positive cases, 384 are Active Positive, 247 have recovered and 08 have died.
Moreover, 31 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, of Kashmir Division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 21695 test results available, 21056 samples have tested as negative till May 01, 2020.
Furthermore, till date 71837 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which include 8109 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 185 in Hospital Quarantine, 384 in hospital isolation and 8430 under home surveillance. Besides, 54721 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Bandipora has 128 positive cases with 01 fresh case today, 92 are Active Positive, 35 recovered (including 11 recoveries today), 01 died; Anantnag district reported 12 new cases which led to 95 positive cases with 94 Active Positive, 01 died; Srinagar reported 02 fresh cases today taking positive cases to 91 with 20 Active Positive, 69 recovered (including 11 recoveries today), 02 died; Baramulla reported 01 new cases today taking total number of positive cases to 85 with 56 Active Positive, 26 recovered(including 5 recoveries today), 03 died; Shopian has 74 positive cases including 2 cases reported today, 57 Active Positive, 17 recovered (including 4 recoveries today); Kupwara reported 06 new cases today taking its positive cases to 55 with 36 Active Positive, 19 recovered; Budgam reported 01 new positive cases leading to 21 such cases of which 10 are Active Positive with 11 recovered cases (including 01 recovery today); Ganderbal has 14 positive cases with 01 Active positive and 13 recovered (including 08 recoveries today); Kulgam has 11 positive cases with 08 Active Positive and 03 recoveries (including 1recovery today); Pulwama has 07 positive cases with 04 active positive, 03 recovered.
Similarly, Jammu has 26 positive cases and all of them have recovered; Udhampur 20 positive cases of which 02 are Active Positive, 17 recovered and 01 died, while as Samba district has 04 positive cases and all the cases have recovered; Rajouri has 04 positive cases, 01 active positive and 03 have recovered; Kathua has 01 positive case who is active positive; Kishtwar had only 01 positive case who has recovered; Ramban has 01 positive case who is Active Positive; Meanwhile, Reasi has 01 positive case who is Active Positive.
The Bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing.
Emphasizing upon the importance of wearing masks, advisory issued in the media bulletin said people are informed that “wearing masks protects you and your family members from the COVID-19 infection.”
Masks lower the chances of coronavirus entering the respiratory system through droplets still in the air from an infected person when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales, the advisory informed.
It further said while wearing a mask ensure that the mask fits around your mouth and nose and there is no gap between your face and the mask.
“Homemade face cover is good for maintaining personal hygiene. Do not share your face covers with any one. If you are living in a family of several members, ensure each member has their own separate face cover,” it added.
Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. “If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly.”
Stressing on the early detection of COVID-19 to prevent the spread of disease, advisory said, “let us be responsible for the well-being of ourselves and everyone around us.”
It further said that not disclosing symptoms could put life of individuals and their families at risk. “In case of symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing report early. Do not fear, call COVID-19 helpline numbers and seek medical advice,” reads the advisory.
Advisory urged people not to step out of home, unless absolutely necessary. “If you have to move out for unavoidable reasons, ensure that you wear a mask and practice social distancing, personal hygiene and frequent handwashing.”
Similarly, all social, religious and other gatherings are strictly prohibited.

Public is advised to strictly follow the advisories issued by the government from time to time and are urged to rely only on the information released by the government through the daily media bulletin to print and electronic media.
People are also advised to refrain from spreading rumours and pay no heed to them at the same time.Officials said that out of 25 new cases 11 were tested positive at SKIMS Lab while as 14 were tested positive at CD hospital Lab. Among the new 25 cases, 12 are from Anantnag, 06 from Kupwara, 02 each from Srinagar and Shopian and one each from Budgam, Bandipora and Baramulla. Dr G H Yatoo Nodal officer for covid-19 at SKIMS said that out of 642 samples tested at SKIMS laboratory, 11 were found positive, adding that among them 06 are from Kupwara, 02 from shopian and one each from Budgam, Baramulla and Bandipora. Nodal officer for covid-19 at GMC Srinagar DrSalimKhan said that out of 346 samples tested at CD laboratory, 14 were tested positive, among them 12 are from Anantnag and two from SrinagarOfficials from Ganderbal said that 8 patients from the district were discharged after complete recovery and now there is only a single active positive patient in the district.Officials from Shopian said Hirpora village witnessed two more cases on Friday has taking toll of positive cases to 49. Ist case was reported on April 08 in Hirpora village and total number of positive cases in district are now 74 including 17 recoveriesOfficials from Anantnag said that among 12 new cases, 6 are from KharporaLarnoo, 5 from TailwaniAchabal and one from MarhamaSangam and total cases in district are now 95 including one death. Officials from district said that among 12 new cases, 5 are male while as 7 are females.
Among 7 females, there is 8 year old girl from and 60 year mentally unsound man from KharporaLarnoo, they said adding that among 5 persons from Tailwani 04 are from single family. They further added that there are a lady from Sangam area is the first case in the area.
