    COVID-19 cases in J&K mounts to 245;51320 persons under observation

    Jammu, Apr 12 The total number of Coronavirus cases has risen to 245 in the Union Territory of J&K with 21 more people, including 17 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, testing positive for the infection on Sunday.

    Meanwhile, curbs were further tightened after Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan, directed Deputy Commissioners to enforce 24×7 (round the clock) strict lock-down in their respective districts in Kashmir, where life remained crippled for the 24th day on Sunday.The Government Sunday informed that 21 new positive cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), 04 from Jammu and 17 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 245.

    According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel coronavirus (COVID-19), out of 245 positive cases, 235 are Active Positive, 06 have recovered and 04 have died.

    Furthermore, till date 51320 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which include 9153 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 433 in Hospital Quarantine, 235 in hospital isolation and 29718 under home surveillance. Besides, 11777 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period.

    The Bulletin further said that 3355 samples have tested as negative till April 12, 2020.

    Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Srinagar has 58 positive cases wherein 56 are Active Positive, 01 recovered and 01 has died, Bandipora 42 positive cases with 39 Active Positive, 02 recovered and  01 died, Baramulla 37 positive cases with 36 Active Positive, no case has recovered and 01 died, Budgam 11 positive cases all of whom are Active Positive, Pulwama 03 positive cases-all Active Positive, Shopian and Kupwara with 14 and 23 positive cases respectively and all are Active Positive, and Ganderbal and Kulgam with 05 and 04 positive cases respectively all of whom are Active Positive.

    Similarly, Jammu has 21 positive cases of whom 19 are Active Positive and 02 have recovered, Udhampur 19 positive cases of which 18 are Active Positive, 0 recovered and 01 died, while as Rajouri and Samba have 03 and 04 positive cases respectively and all are Active Positive and the single positive case has recovered fully in Kishtwar district.

    The Bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing.

    Meanwhile, according to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, the general public has been urged to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily.

    People have been advised to take care of their well being and mental health during the lockdown.

    Giving tips, the advisory has asked people to: follow a daily routine

    Write down their thoughts, listen to their favourite music & songs, reach out to friends through phone calls or online, work on their passion or hobbies in  households and avoid excessive exposure to COVID-19 related news that may be upsetting.

    For further psycho-social support people have been asked to call National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) Toll Free 080-46110007.

    The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary visit to hospitals, in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly by calling on COVID-19 helpline numbers so that they can be provided correct medical advise and directed to the right health facility, if needed.

    The Bulletin informed the general public that in case of any emergency people can avail free ambulance services 24×7 at their doorsteps by calling on toll-free No. 108. Pregnant women and sick infants can avail free ambulance services by dialling toll-free No. 102.

    Furthermore a 24×7 toll-free national helpline number 1075 has been activated for support, guidance, and response to health-related queries on novel coronavirus disease. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has also set up helpline numbers in this regard: 0191-2549676 (UT level Cell for J&K), 0191-2520982, 0191-2674444, 0191-2674115 (For Jammu Division), 0194-2440283 and 0194-2430581 (For Kashmir Division).

    With regard to personal hygiene, the advisory stressed on frequent hand washing with soap and water and to observe, coughing and sneezing etiquettes.

    Public is advised to strictly follow the advisories issued by the Government from time to time and are urged to rely only on the information released by the government in this regard through the daily media bulletin to print  and electronic media.Srinagar is the worst affected district in the Union Territory of J&K as it has recorded 26 per cent of the total 235 active positive cases, besides one death so far. Following the surge in the COVID-19 cases, authorities imposed stringent restrictions on movement and assembly of people in the district and notified 14 areas as ‘Red Zones’. These zones, which have been completely sealed and no one is allowed in or out, were marked after several people from these areas tested positive for the infection.  The authorities also initiated a massive contact tracing and sanitization driver in the district.

     

    The total number of Coronavirus cases crossed 200-mark in J&K after 40 more people, including 28 from Kashmir and 12 from Jammu, tested positive for the infection on Friday and Saturday. As many as 59 new cases were reported Wednesday and Thursday. Fifteen people, including nine in Kashmir and six in Jammu, were on Tuesday tested positive for the infection. Three persons tested positive for the infection in the valley while no case reported in Jammu on Monday. As many as 31 new positive cases, including 28 from Kashmir and three from Jammu, were reported on April 4 and April 5, making it the highest jump in the COVID-19 infected persons in J&K.

     

    Eight persons, including five from Jammu and three from Kashmir, were tested positive for COVAID-19 on Thursday while the number jumped by five on Friday. Six persons were tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday while seven other cases were reported on Wednesday. As many as 11 persons, including eight in Kashmir and three in Jammu, tested positive for COVID-19 in J&K on Monday. The positive case reportedly includes a doctor in Jammu.

     

    A 62-year-old man died at a government hospital less than 12 hours after being tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir valley on March 29, when five persons were tested positive for the infection. So far, two persons have died due to the infection while as many have been successfully treated. As many as 12 positive Coronavirus cases was recorded in J&K in a single day on March 28, triggering panic among locals despite assurance by administration that they are fully prepared to curtail the infection.

     

    On March 27, two patients are from Chattabal while two others from Bemina in Srinagar were tested positive for Coronavirus. Two minor siblings also from Srinagar were tested positive for Coronavirus on March 26, when a 65-year-old Hyderpora resident became the first person to die due to deadly infection in J&K. On March 25, four persons, who had met the 65-year-old patient during an event in the valley, were tested positive for Coronavirus..People are advised to refrain from spreading rumours and pay no heed to them at the same time.
