Rajouri, Apr 25: To press their demand for opening a Degree College in Darhal, the civil society, under the banner of Joint Action Committee Darhal, on Tuesday launched an indefinite agitation after the government announced the establishment of new government degree colleges in Jammu division, but Darhal seemed to have missed the cut.
A week ago, JAC had suspended its agitation after assurances from the government. The call for bandh was given on Monday by the JAC in a meeting, in which the members of civil society, political parties, Beopar mandal, transporters and social organizations participated and unanimously decided to re-launch the agitation.
In the morning, locals gathered at Darhal Bus Stand and also locked some government offices and banks. Students from a number of institutions also joined the protest. All kinds of business establishments remained closed and people staged protests, raising anti-government slogans. They vowed to continue their protest until the government fulfills their demand.
“The government is not addressing our genuine demand and we will continue our agitation until our demand is met,” Advocate Zahid Malik said.
