Despite EVM ‘malfunctioning’ reports, voting underway in 117 Lok Sabha constituencies

SRINAGAR: As the voting is underway on Tuesday across 117 Lok Sabha constituencies spread over 15 states and Union Territories, including polling in the first of the staggered polling in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag constituency, PTI reported that Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh alleged that EVMs were “malfunctioning or voting for the BJP” across the country, terming it a criminal negligence.

“EVMs across India malfunctioning or voting for the BJP. DMs say poll officials untrained to operate EVMs. 350+ being replaced. This is criminal negligence for a polling exercise that costs Rs 50,000 crs.

Should we believe DMs @ECISVEEP, or is something far more sinister afoot?” Yadav said in a tweet tagging the Election Commission.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections started on April 11 and would conclude on May 19. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
