Srinagar, 09-Nov:Gujjar Bakerwal Joint Action Committee (GBJAC) on Wednesday held “Tribal Bachao March” in Srinagar to inform the community against the dilution of Scheduled Tribe status.
While speaking to media at preas enclave srinagar, (GBJAC) Chief spokesperson said that they started this march on November 04 from Kupwara to Kathua. During the march the tribal community living in the far flung areas would be made aware about the dilution of ST status.
The “Tribal Bachao” March started in from Faqir Gujri via Gupkar to Lal Chowk in Srinagar which Several organisations are representing the tribal Gujjar and Bakerwal communities in Kashmir and different areas of people are expected to participate in this march.
This comes after, Last month Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Paharis in Jammu and Kashmir would get reservations as a Scheduled Tribe on the lines of Gujjars and Bakerwals.
Terming the extension of this reservation “a historic blunder”, the participants of the march said that if “upper castes” are granted the Scheduled Tribe status, it would defeat the purpose of reservation envisaged in the Constitution.
