    Elderly people turn up to vote in Poonch, Rajouri ULB elections.

    POONCH,OCT 09: At 104, Suhag Rani becomes J&K’s oldest voter. Elderly people were seen casting their votes at many polling stations on Monday across Rajouri and Poonch districts during the first phase of the urban local bodies’ election. Elderly men and women were among the earliest to reach polling booths to exercise their franchise. Eighty-three year old Samriti Devi was brought by her son to cast her vote in ward number 6 at a polling station set up inside Government Girls High School Jawahar Nagar in Rajouri. “Voting is my right and I will cast vote till my last breath,” Devi said.Muhammad Rafiq, 72 turned up to vote in Poonch. Eighty-five-year old Mahi-ud-Din from ward 3 of Rajouri also cast his vote and was brought to the polling station by his family members.  “I have come here to cast my vote in democratic spirit,” he said. Meanwhile, Suhag Rani Thukral of Rehari Chungi, Jammu, born in 1915 became the oldest voter of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise her right to vote in the first phase of the Urban Local Bodies polls held on Monday.The woman cast her vote at ward number 8 in the Rehari Chungi area.The elderly woman was taken to the polling booth by her children in a car. Mother of four children, Thukral said, “I cannot walk now, but thanks to my children and grandchildren that they helped me reach the polling station.”
