    Highways re-open after brief closure.

    SRINAGAR,OCT 10:Commuters advised to avoid night travel on Mughal Road. Kashmir’s plains Tuesday received light rains while fresh snowfall was witnessed in the higher reaches, leading to brief closure of Mughal Road as well as the Srinagar-Leh and Srinagar-Jammu highways.A meteorological department official told Greater Kashmir that most of the higher reaches including Sonamarg, Zojila Pass, Apharwat in Gulmarg, Mughal Road and many other areas received fresh snowfall. The Valley’s plains, including the summer capital Srinagar, Srinagar received light rains. Director meteorological department Sonam Lotus said weather would remain dry for next one week. A traffic police official said following landslides at some places, the Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for at least four hours in the morning. The one-side traffic was suspended after a landslide at Digdol area in Ramban district, he said, adding that the road was thrown open later after the debris was cleared.  An official said that owing to snowfall and rains on Zojila Pass, traffic on the Srinagar-Leh highway was also suspended, but restored later in the day.Traffic along the Mughal Road—connecting Kashmir with Poonch via Shopian in southern Kashmir—was also stopped following snowfall at some places along the route, but later restored, the official said. “All roads and highways are open,” superintendent of traffic police (rural), Muzaffar Ahmad Shah told Greater Kashmir late on Tuesday evening.

    ‘AVOID NIGHT TRAVEL ON MUGHAL ROAD’

    Meanwhile, the police in Poonch issued an advisory asking commuters to avoid travelling on the Mughal Road during night hours.“Commuters are requested to cooperate and avoid travelling on Mughal Road during night hours as there are chances of rains and snowfall,” senior superintendent of police Poonch Rajiv Pandey said.Meanwhile, traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway shall move from Srinagar side towards Jammu on Wednesday, a traffic police official said.

    Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded maximum temperature of 24.5 degrees Celsius and minimum of 6.4 degree Celsius, while Qazigund recorded maximum of 23.0 degree Celsius and minimum of 5.2 degree Celsius.Pahalgam recorded maximum of 21.6 degree Celsius and minimum of 3.3 degree Celsius, Kupwara (maximum 23.4 and minimum of 5.0); Kokernag (maximum 22.2 and minimum 6.3); Gulmarg (maximum 12.6 and minimum 2.5); Leh (maximum 17.5 and minimum 3.0) and Kargil (maximum 17.7 and minimum 3.4).
