Jammu Bar Association to decide future strategy today

Jammu, Apr 12: The Jammu High Court Bar Association, which had called for Jammu bandh on Wednesday, will hold its General House meeting on Thursday to once again seek support to its protest programmes from those organisations that stayed away from today’s bandh.
Jammu’s premier business organisation, the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and several lawyers associations did not support Jammu Bar’s bandh call demanding a CBI probe into the barbaric rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, revocation of Tribal Policy and deportation of Rohingya refugees.
“We will reach out to all of them and urge them to join our agitation as these issues concern us all,” president Jammu Bar BS Slathia told Greater Kashmir.
Work in all courts, revenue courts, tribunals and commissions remained suspended today for the eighth consecutive day, a handout issued by the Bar Association said.
“The decision on whether to continue agitation, resume court working or keep it suspended and how to involve other organisations in the agitation will be taken at tomorrow’s meeting,” Slathia said.
Slathia, however, said the Bar Association does not support the accused in the rape and murder case.
“Officially, Bar cannot and will not provide any legal help to the accused but if someone approaches someone in personal capacity that is different,” he said.
