    JK reports 59 new positive cases,tally reaches 1449; death toll mounts 20

    Jammu,May 21: Twenty one cops, a medical intern and two pregnant ladies are among 59 persons who were tested positive for novel coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, taking tally of total cases in the Union Territory to 1449.  Among new cases detected in Jammu and Kashmir, 14 were tested positive at SKIMS, 33 at CD hospital, six at Lal Path Srinagar, four at JVC Bemina and two at Army’s command hospital Srinagar.Among 59 new cases, 51 were from Kashmir division while as eight are from Jammu division. With this, the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached to 1238 including 615 recoveries and 18 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division has reached to 211 including 69 recoveries and two deaths.Officials  said that total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir stands at 754, which includes 605 from Kashmir division and 140 from Jammu division.“Of them, 12 are from Anantnag, 21 from Kulgam, five from Srinagar, four from Budgam, seven from Kupwara two from Ganderbal, one from Jammu district, three each from Ramban and Kathua and one from Kishtwar,” officials disclosed.Dr G H Yatoo Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at SKIMS  saidthat out of 1900 samples tested on Thursday, 14 were found positive. He added that 10220 samples are yet to be tested at SKIMS.DrSalim Khan Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at GMC Srinagar  saidthat out of over 701 samples tested at CD hospital, 33 were found positive.He further added that 31 new cases include 21 cops posted in Kulgam, 10 persons from Anantnag including two pregnant ladies, a medical intern (doctor) from Psychiatry section of SMHS, who was staying at GMC Srinagar Hostel campus Bemina and one from Kulgam.A senior police official said that 21 cops who are posted at Reserve camp in higher secondary school Chawalgam have tested positive for COVID-19“They are posted at HSS Chawalgam from last 3 months and not in DPL Kulgam,”he said. SSP KulgamGurinder Pal Singh  said that these cops are under command of DPL Kulgam.“They were in a separate compound since beginning of Lockdown and were put only on COVID- related duties like guard at Covid care centres, dealing with non-cooperative covid positive or potentially positive persons, etc,” he said.Lt Col Inam Danish Khan from Army’s Command Hospital Udhampur said  that 1066 samples were tested at the hospital in last 24 hours.Meanwhile, two more persons died in Jammu and Kashmir due to covid-19 including a 70 –year- old lady from ParisabadBudgam and a 80- year- old lady from Bemina Srinagar, taking the death toll in J&K to 20 including 18 from Kashmir division and 2 from Jammu division.DrSalim Khan Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at GMC Srinagar said that the lady from Parisabad, Budgam who was initially admitted in SMHS Hospital on 15th May, tested positive for COVID“She was shifted to CD Hospital Srinagar on May 18 and passed away today,” he said, adding that she was admitted as a case of COPD with restrictive lung disease and COVID pneumonia.He further said the 80 -year -old lady from Usmania colony Bemina Srinagar who died at SMHS on Wednesday tested positive for covid-19 on Thursday.“She was admitted with bilateral pneumonia and hypertension on May 19 and was kept in isolation ward where she died on Thursday,” he said, adding that her body was kept in GMC Srinagar mortuary after she died yesterday.According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 1449 positive cases, 745 are Active Positive, 684 have recovered and 20 have died; 02 in Jammu division and 18 in Kashmir division.Moreover, 06 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 03 from Jammu division and 03 from Kashmir Division.The Bulletin further said that out of 107108 test results available, 105659 samples have been tested as negative till May 21, 2020.Additionally, till date 125866 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 33586 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 57 in Hospital Quarantine, 745  in hospital isolation and 21893 under home surveillance. Besides, 69565 persons have completed their surveillance period.Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Bandipora has 137 positive cases with 08 Active Positive, 128 recovered, 01 death; Srinagar has 174 positive cases (including 05 cases reported today) with 71 Active Positive, 97 recovered, 06 deaths; Anantnag district has 264 positive cases (including 12 cases reported today), with 171 Active Positive, 89 recovered,  04 deaths; Baramulla has 129 positive cases with 34 Active Positive, 91 recovered, 04 deaths; Shopian has 109 positive cases with 11 Active Positive, 98 recovered; Kupwara has 125 positive cases (including 07 cases reported today) with 77 Active Positive, 48 recovered; Budgam has 62 positive cases (including 04 cases reported today), with 30 Active Positive and 30 recovered cases and 02 death; Ganderbal has 27 positive cases (including 02 cases reported today) with 12 Active cases and 15 recoveries; Kulgam has 192 positive cases (including 21 reported today), with 181 Active Positive and  10 recoveries and 01 death and Pulwama reported 19 positive cases with 10 active positive, 09 recovered (including 03 cases recoveries reported today).Similarly, Jammu has 68 positive cases (including 01 cases reported today) with 36 active positive cases and 31 recoveries and 01 death; Udhampur has 33 positive cases with 11 active positive case, 21 recovered and 01 death; Samba has 16 positive cases with 10 Active Positive and 06 recoveries; Rajouri has 08 positive cases with 04 active positive cases and 04 recovered; Kathua has 40 positive cases (including 03 cases reported today) with 36 Active positive and 04 recovered (including 03 cases recoveries reported today); Kishtwar has 07 positive cases (including 01 cases reported today) with 06 active positive case and 01 recovered; Ramban has 30 positive cases (including 03 cases reported today) with 29 active positive and 01 recovered; Reasi has 04 positive cases with 03 active positive and 01 recovered, Poonch has 04 active positive cases while Doda has 01 active positive case.The Bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing.Meanwhile  Two elderly women died in separate hospitals due to COVID-19 in the summer capital, Srinagar on Thursday, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 20.With these, nine people have death due to COVID-19 in five days in the valley. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 cases continue to rise unabated with the total number of infected people in the Union Territory surpassing 1400.Official sources said that an 80-year-old woman, a resident of Usmania Colony Bemina, was admitted to SHMS hospital on Tuesday with bilateral pneumonia and hypertension. “The woman died last evening,” they said, adding the test result of the woman came positive for COVID-19 on Thursday afternoon.They said another elderly woman, a resident of Parisabad in Budgam, was admitted to SHMS hospital on May 15. “After testing positive for COVID-19, the woman was shifted to Chest Disease Hospital on May 18,” they said, adding she was suffering from Restrictive Lung disease and pneumonia.They said the woman died after suffering a massive heart attack on Thursday at CD hospital. The death of the woman in Budgam comes just two days after a 40-year-old woman, a resident of Bijbehera in Anantnag, died due to the infection at
