    JK top contributor in the SBM-G Swachhata ‘75 Transformative Tales from India’ released by GoI

    Jammu, July 22: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has achieved an impressive feat after it has declared to be the top contributor for ‘Swachhata Chronicles – Transformative Tales from India’, a compendium of 75 Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus Best Practices to meet the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission– Gramin (SBM-G) Phase- II.Union Minister For Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat released Manual for Disaster Management Plan and ‘Swachhata Chronicles – Transformative Tales from India: A compendium of 75 ODF Plus Best Practices’ on Friday at Delhi.The Government of India (GOI) has taken a momentous step towards highlighting the nation’s progress and development with the launch of “75 Transformative Tales of India.” This remarkable initiative aims to showcase inspiring stories from various regions that reflect the unity and diversity of the entire country.Shree Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, spearheaded the launch event, emphasizing the importance of these tales in showcasing the positive changes taking place across India.After inauguration of National Conference on Rural WASH Partners’ Forum, the Union Minister said under visionary guidance of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, we have achieved more than 12.6 Cr Tap connections and over 64% ODF Plus Villages.The “75 Transformative Tales of India” brings to the forefront stories that embody the essence of unity and progress, highlighting the transformative journey of India over the years. It presents a platform for sharing stories that inspire and motivate others to contribute to the nation’s development actively.One of the significant aspects of this initiative is the representation of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Among the 75 tales, six compelling stories have been chosen from this enchanting region, depicting the resilience and determination of its people in the face of various challenges.The six tales showcases the innovations, measures taken to overcome barriers and raise awareness, special campaigns launched, and other endeavors of States/UTs in various ODF Plus activities to meet the goals of SBM-G Phase-II.The six tales include: SWACHTA KARWAAN- Effective IEC initiative by Directorate of Rural Sanitation J&K which covered more than 695 GPs,14 blocks and 14 districts which drew huge crowds as thousands of people from villages including PRIs took the Swachhata pledge and participated in the Swachhata marchConstruction of Pink Toilets- Another significant initiative by Directorate which resulted in improved attendance for girls in rural areas and to make sanitation facilities accessible to womenGOBARDHAN-Biogas plant at Suchetgarh- Biogas plant is being set up at Suchetgarh block to curb the burning of wood and preventing air pollution and generate energy and organic manure from cattle waste which ultimately will boost the income in the rural area.Soakage Pits for Greywater Management- GoI also appreciated J&K’s initiative to take up the construction of soak pits to effectively treat greywater and raise the groundwater table in rural areasGive Polythene Get Gold campaign- This is one of the most talked campaigns in India launched by Sarpanch of Sadiwara Village of District Anantnag to eliminate plastic waste and encourage the community to act plastic-smart with a sense of responsibilitySustainable and Zero landfill- A meticulous strategy and strong mechanism from manpower to machinery to ensure comprehensive hygiene and sanitation during Shri Amarnath Ni Yatra along with massive communication campaign was implemented from Kathua to the holy Amarnath Cave to foster a neat and clean pilgrimage experience thus ensuring sustainable and zero landfillSuch recognition reflects the commitment to excellence, and it indicates that the efforts and contributions have made a significant impact and have been recognized by a broader audience at national platform.The conference was attended by senior officers from States/UTs Mission Directors, Secretaries In-charge of JJM and SBM-G, line-Ministries of Government of India, Corporates working in WASH sector among others. From J&K, the Director of Rural Sanitation attended the conference.
