J&K will end ties with India if Article 370 would be scrapped

Guwahati: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said that the relation of the state with India will end if the terms and conditions of the state’s accession to the Union were changed.

Mehbooba Mufti after filing her nomination papers from the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency said that 2020 will also be a deadline from Jammu and Kashmir to the nation. If the terms and conditions on which the state acceded to India, the relation with the country will also end.

Mufti has reacted in response to BJP Chief Amit Shah’s assertion that Article 35 A will be replaced by 2020. The article states that it guarantees the special status to Jammu and Kashmir in terms of residency rights.

Commenting on the Congress Manifesto, Mufti said that it was same as the agenda of alliance agreed upon between her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the BJP at the time of government formation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2015. She further said that status quo on Article 370, revocation of AFSPA, holding dialogue and reducing any footprint from civilian areas are word by word the same thing.

On Saturday last, Mufti warned that if the Centre scraps Article 370, the relationship between Jammu and Kashmir would come to an end and her reaction comes after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley advocated repeal of special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jaitley earlier said that Article 35A is constitutionally vulnerable and is also hampering economic development of the state which restricts non-permanent residents to buy property in the state.

Mufti also said that if Article 370 is scrapped new conditions would emerge.
