    Langate shuts over killing of local militant, family demands mortal remains

    Srinagar, Aug 11: A complete shutdown is being observed on Saturday in Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district to mourn the killing of local militant.
    Reports said that all shops and other commercial establishments are closed while public transport is off the roads.
    On Thursday, the army claimed to have killed five unidentified militants in dense forests of Dooniwari, Rafiabad.
    Reports said a family from Langate approached police with a claim that one among the five militants killed in Rafiabad forests was their kin.
    Bashir Ahmad Mir, a resident of Langate, approached the police, claiming that one among the slain militants was Muzaffar Ahmad Mir whom they identified through pictures that have gone viral on social media.
    Muzaffar had gone missing a week ago from his residence and reportedly joined the militant ranks.
    Soon after the family found the picture, they approached concerned Police Station Langate about the matter.
    Police sources said that family has been assured if their claim is found, the body will be exhumation and handed over to them.
    Army said that the encounter broke out in the area of Vijay Post-the upper reaches of Rafiabad following inputs about the presence of militants. In the gunfight, the army said that all the five militants killed in the area were non-locals and belonged to Lashkar e Toiba militant organization.
