    PM Modi participates in Constitution Day celebrations; launches various initiatives under e-court project

    Monitoring Desk,26-Nov;Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, ‘We the People’ in the preamble of the Constitution is a commitment, pledge, and belief that has made India the mother of democracy.

    He described Indian Constitution as open, futuristic, and known for its progressive views saying its spirit is youth centric.

    Mr. Modi said this while participating in the Constitution Day celebrations at the Supreme Court in New Delhi today,
    November 26. The Prime Minister urged the youth to participate more in discussions and debates regarding the Constitution to understand it better. Mr. Modi highlighted that judiciary is taking several steps including e-initiatives to ensure ease of justice for all in the country.

    The Prime Minister said, in today’s global situation, the eyes of the entire world are on India and amid the rapid development, the country is strengthening its global image.

    He also said India will take over the Presidency of G20 in a week’s time and it must be ensured that the country’s image as the mother of democracy is strengthened. On the occasion, he also paid homage to those who lost their lives in the Mumbai Terror Attacks on its 14th anniversary today.

    During the programme, the Prime Minister also launched various new initiatives under the e-court project. The project is an effort to provide services to litigants, lawyers, and the judiciary through information and communication technology.

    The initiatives launched include Virtual Justice Clock, JustIS mobile App 2.0, Digital court, and S3WaaS Websites. Virtual Justice Clock will make the functioning of the courts accountable and transparent by sharing with the public the status of case disposals by the court.

    The public can access the Virtual Justice Clock of any court on the District Court’s website. Through JustIS Mobile App 2.0, judges of the High Court and Supreme Court can now monitor the case pendency and its disposal.

    The Digital court is an initiative to make court records available to the judge in digitized form. The S3WaaS website is a framework to generate, configure, deploy and manage websites for publishing specified information and services related to district judiciary.

    Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said the story of the Indian Constitution is not a story of only legal text and interpretation, it is the story of human struggle and sacrifices and undoing injustice against the marginalised section of the society.

    Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Prime Minister has highlighted the need to encourage local languages in courts to increase the confidence of the common men in the judicial system and to make them feel connected too. He informed that under the aegis of his Ministry, the Bar Council of India has constituted Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti.

    The committee is listing out words and phrases which are most commonly frequently used in various branches of law for developing a common core vocabulary close to all Indian languages for translating legal material into regional languages.
