    Rains and Snow in Many Regions Across India

    New Delhi: An upper-level trough (relatively low-pressure area) will pass over northern India on Monday and bring snow or rain in the northern-most regions of the country till Wednesday. Heavy snow or rain is likely over Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh on Monday.

    Central India will be a convergence zone of an anticyclonic circulation over east and a cyclonic circulation over the north. This convergence may bring isolated rain in the region on Monday and Tuesday. Scattered rain is possible over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Telangana on Monday.

    Heavy rain with thunderstorms is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Isolated rain with thunderstorms is possible over Karnataka and Kerala.

    Poor-to-very-poor air quality is forecast in major cities across northern, central, western, eastern, and southern India. Delhi’s air quality will be at unhealthy or hazardous level with very high particulate matter PM2.5 index throughout the region.

    Tuesday and beyond

    A depression located over the sea on the east side of Sri Lanka brings heavy rain with thunderstorms over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It may intensify and progress west-northwestward towards southern India increasing the risks of heavy rains from Friday.

    Heavy snow or rain is likely to continue over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on Tuesday. Scattered rain is likely over Punjab. Scattered rain is possible over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. Isolated rain with thunderstorms is possible over Maharashtra and Kerala.

    Dry weather is forecast in southern, eastern, and northeastern India. Air quality will be poor around Delhi and major cities in northern, central, western, eastern, and southern India. Calm weather and under gentle breeze may cause locally dense fog and lower visibility, especially in central India on Tuesday morning.

    Maximum temperatures will be above normal in southern India. The maximum temperatures will start dropping in northern and western India on Wednesday, followed by central India on Thursday.
