SHRC terms reports about deputy mayor’s visit to hospital ‘disturbing’

Srinagar, Dec 21: Terming the reports about Sheikh Imran’s visit to Chest Disease Hospital in his capacity as deputy Mayor and alleged use of unparliamentary language with doctors there as “disturbing”, State Human Rights Commission on Thursday sought an explanation from him.

The SHRC also observed that “exercising powers by any authority which are not available to him in law amount to breaking of rule of law and as such violation of human rights.”

Taking Suo Motto cognizance of media reports about the incident, the SHRC said that news reports were “disturbing and even a video is circulating on the social media about Deputy Mayor’s visit in hospital in Srinagar.”

“It is well settled that exercising powers by any authority which are not available to him in law amount to breaking of rule of law and as such violation of Human Rights. The reports prima facie suggest that Deputy Mayor’s remarks / comments were humiliating to members of very respectable and notable profession,” the SHRC said, according to GNS.

The Commission issued notice to the Deputy Mayor, Municipal Corporation and asked him to file reply by December 26.

Imran recently visited the hospital and allegedly used “unparliamentary” language with doctors.

A purported video also went viral on the social media and there were demands of action by doctors and netizens among others  against Imran. (GNS)
