    Under NCTE, B.Ed compulsory for all govt teachers

    Jammu, Mar 30 The Jammu and Kashmir Samagra Shiksha under National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) has made Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) compulsory for all government teachers across the Union Territory.

    J&K Samagra Shiksha, Director, Arun Manhas here on Tuesday said, “the government of Jammu and Kashmir had an agreement with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) from 2017-18 upto 2023 under which the government teachers have to undergo B.Ed as a mandatory prerequisites.”

    He said that so far 19,993 teachers have completed the B.Ed and by June they will receive their mark-sheets while the left over teachers will also soon complete the mandatory qualification.

    “A teacher is a teacher, no matter he is a lecturer or a principal, everyone has to undergo the B.ED,” Dr Manhas said adding that those who have not pursued B.Ed, are to be treated as untrained teachers.

    “All such teachers, who are not B.Ed are instructed to get themselves enrolled in IGNOU and submit their admission information and documents related to their educational qualification by 5 April in the Department,” said the official.

    He added that the teachers enrolling will be eligible for B.Ed qualification from both open and distance learning mode of IGNOU, adding, “all teachers will also have to submit a demand draft of Rs 25,000/- in the name of the Department along with the copy of documents submitted.”

    “Instructions have been issued by the Education Department to all the Chief Education Officers and Principals of the DIET,” he said and added that the teachers, who would not be B.Ed qualified, will be categorized in the list of untrained teachers.

    “Many teachers working in the department are also matriculates and have passed the higher secondary schooling under Rehbar-e-Taleem,” he said adding that those teachers who are graduates, are only eligible to undergo the B.ED.
