    Weatherman has `bad news’  for Kashmiris, Predicts more snow, rains from Nov 12 to 15

    Srinagar: As the temperature goes down in the Valley, the weathermen here has predicted more rain and snowfall across the Valley from Nov 12 to 15, saying that the temperature may go further down during the rainy days.

    Reports  quoting Director Meteorological department, Sonum Lotus as saying that there is possibility of rain and snowfall across the Valley from Nov 12, saying that the wet weather would remain till Nov 15.

    He said that the weather in the Valley is highly dynamic and the department will give appropriate forecast in the coming days. “The intensity of magnitude of rain and snowfall will be less as compared to last snowfall that was witnessed on last Saturday,” he said.

    Lots further said that beside higher reaches, plains may also experience fresh snowfall on Nov 14 according to the prediction. “After Nov 15, there is prediction of dry weather for next few days,” he said.

    Earlier on last Saturday, the higher reaches of the valley as well plains here experienced season’s first snowfall that also resulted in the blockade of roads and especially affected the power supply across the Valley.

    The four transmission towers in the Valley at Lissar, Kulgam, Shopian and Wanpoh got fully damaged in the snowfall, thereby left southern districts without electricity for days together.

    Chief Engineer Power Development department (PDD), Hashmat Qazi on Wednesday said that the power in powerless areas of South Kashmir will be restored within 16 hours. He also said that over 130 damaged transformers were also repaired in last three days.

    Kashmir valley received heavy snowfall on November 3, disrupting air and surface transport besides damaging power transmission towers and causing heavy loss to orchards.
