    Workshop on Prevention of Illegal Wildlife Trade organised at Jammu

    Additional Director General of Police (Armed) J&K Arun Kumar Choudhary inaugurated one day workshop on “Prevention of Illegal Wildlife Trade” organised by the Wildlife Trust of India in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Department of Wildlife Protection at Jammu.
    The participants from Crime branch, CRPF, BSF, Forest & Wildlife Departments, J&K Forest Protection Force, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Customs Department, Postal Department, Airport Authority participated in the programme. Besides, the participants from Forest & Wildlife Departments of Punjab & UNDP also attended the workshop. In his inaugural address Addl. Director General of Police (Armed) called for synergy and coordination between various agencies for effective control of illegal wildlife trade. He also stressed upon awareness of people in the areas where probability of wildlife crime is high as per reports of Wildlife Department. Departmental perspective of Jammu and Kashmir was presented by Chief Wildlife Warden, J&K Suresh Kumar Gupta. He mentioned about Department’s partnership with Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Central University and Wildlife Trust of India for developing the detailed database pertaining to wildlife genetics, wildlife crime and trade for developing the comprehensive strategy for mitigation. Regional Dy. Director, Northern Region, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau presented comprehensive view on the topic with references to the scenario at country level.Pr. Chief Conservator of Forests, J&K Dr. Mohit Gera in his valedictory address called for organic synergy between the various departments of the Government and local public to consolidate the efforts and enhance the effective deterrence and particularly monitoring of wildlife related crimes to the intending culprits. The workshop was also attended by Chief Executive Officer CAMPA, Director Forest Protection Force, Chief Conservator of Forests Jammu, Secretary Technical Forest Department and other officers of the rank of Conservators, Divisional Forest Officers, Wildlife Wardens and Dy. Director, FPF.
