Youth suffers head injury after police chase in Kangan, protests erupt

Srinagar, Apr 2: A youth suffered a head injury after being chased by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday. The incident triggered massive protests in the area.
Reports said a youth, identified as Gowhar Ahmad Rather, was part of a group that had assembled on a roadside in Kangan.
“He fell down and suffered an injury after police chased the group,” said a local, wishing not to be named.
Soon, intense protests erupted in the area as the news spread.
Medical Superintendent Trauma hospital Kangan Dr Yasmeen Kangoo told Greater Kashmir that the injured youth was brought to the hospital with a head injury.
She said the injured youth was referred to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment. When asked whether the youth had suffered a bullet injury, she replied in negative. “It didn’t look like a bullet injury,” she said.
SDPO Kangan Umer Shah said that police chased away the group of youth but no shots were fired.
However, clashes erupted after protesters pelted the forces with stones.
